The Game Rating

What is the Game Rating?

Your skill number in Pickleball Game. It shows how well you do against our computer players.

It is not a DUPR rating or any other official rating.

The scale runs from 2.0 to 8.0. You see it to one decimal. The leaderboard shows two.

What do the numbers mean?

Each range has a skill name. We use USA Pickleball’s wording.

  • 2.0 to 2.4: New.
  • 2.5 to 2.9: Beginner.
  • 3.0 to 3.4: Advanced beginner.
  • 3.5 to 3.9: Intermediate.
  • 4.0 to 4.4: Advanced intermediate.
  • 4.5 to 4.9: Advanced.
  • 5.0 to 5.4: Expert.
  • 5.5 and up: Elite.

How is each computer level rated?

Every computer level has a fixed number. You are rated by how you do against them.

In singles, Low is 3.0, Medium is 4.0 and Hard is 5.9.

Are singles and doubles rated separately?

Yes. Doubles has its own rating and its own computer-level numbers. Your partner is a computer player too, which makes doubles against Low easier.

The leaderboard has a Singles tab and a Doubles tab.

How does a game change my rating?

  • Winning counts. So does the share of points you take.
  • The margin matters. 11-9 moves you less than 11-2.
  • Beating a harder level is worth much more.
  • A win never lowers your rating. A loss never raises it.
  • Recent games count a bit more. The latest 60 games in each mode count.
  • Games to 7 are practice and do not count. Games to 15 and 21 count more than games to 11.
  • With movement assist or auto-swing on, the computer counts as 0.4 weaker.

What is reliability?

A percentage that shows how far to trust your rating. It grows as you play games against levels close to your own.

It fades if you stop playing. About half of your game credit goes every 60 days.

Your rating does not drop while you are away. Your reliability does.

Under 60% your rating is Provisional.

How do I get on the leaderboard?

You need three things in a mode:

  • An account. Sign in free with your email at Sign in.
  • At least 10 verified games in that mode.
  • Reliability of 60% or more.

Guests can play and get a rating, but they are not listed.

The leaderboard shows all-time ratings by default. Climbers this week shows the biggest rating gains this week. You need 5 or more games that week.

If you stop playing for about six months, you drop off the board. You return when you play again.

Do all games count?

Only games our server has verified. The game records your inputs. Our server replays the match and checks the score.

Edited scores are rejected. Your rating is worked out on the server, from verified games only.
